iSAQB® EAM - Enterprise Architecture Management

The official curriculum for Enterprise Architecture Management carries the subtitle "for Software Architects", and that is the perspective this training takes. You learn EAM not to become an enterprise architect, but to align your system decisions with the enterprise architecture around you. For that you work with the TOGAF Architecture Development Method, business capabilities and architecture boards.

CPSA® EAM Course in Detail

Curriculum 2024.1 splits EAM into five parts across 1080 teaching minutes, 490 of which are exercise time. It starts at the basic terms, spends half the course on approaches and methods, and ends at the interaction between software and enterprise architecture.

01Basic terms used in Enterprise Architecture Management

This part draws the boundaries: what EAM does and what it is not.

  • EAM as the bridge between strategic enterprise planning and individual projects
  • Delineation from IT, solution and software architecture, with the architect roles that go with them
  • The four architecture domains of business, application, data and technology, plus capabilities
  • Baseline, target and transition architecture, and an overview of the frameworks: TOGAF, Zachman, BIAN, TM Forum Frameworx
02EAM Approaches

The longest part of the curriculum and the methodical core of the module.

  • TOGAF Architecture Development Method, capability-based planning and application portfolio management
  • Business capabilities as the bridge between business and software architecture, related to domain-driven design
  • Maturity, gap, impact and risk analysis, plus architecture principles and reference models
  • Agility in EAM with Scrum, Kanban, SAFe and Open Agile Architecture, plus the EAM repository and its metamodel
03Architecture Governance

This part settles who in a company is allowed to take an architecture decision at all.

  • Governance at three levels: corporate, IT and architecture
  • The function, remit and composition of architecture boards
  • Architecture guidelines, metrics and compliance monitoring, for example according to TOGAF
  • Roles and responsibilities of enterprise, solution and software architects
04Interaction Between Software Architecture and Enterprise Architecture Management

The influence runs both ways, and this part gives that 200 minutes.

  • How enterprise strategy, legal change and reorganisation shape your system designs
  • Market, methodology and technology trends such as blockchain, microservices and cloud
  • The feedback from architecture decisions such as microservices into processes and the organisation
  • Cross-application concerns: integration, security, monitoring, transactions
05Examples

To close, you discuss a real enterprise architecture with its advantages and drawbacks.

  • At least one real EAM example is mandatory in every licensed training
  • The type and shape of the example follow the interests of the group
  • The curriculum marks this section explicitly as not examinable

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01Do I need CPSA-F to attend the tecnovy EAM training?
No. The iSAQB curriculum for the EAM module states explicitly that the module can be attended independently of a CPSA-F certification; it only recommends architecture fundamentals at CPSA-F level. For the later CPSA-A certification, CPSA-F is mandatory.
02Is there an EAM examination?
No. There is no examination for the EAM module. The tecnovy EAM training earns you 30 credit points and a certificate of participation; the assessment comes later on the path to CPSA-A certification, and it covers all modules together.
03How many credit points does EAM carry?
The tecnovy EAM training carries 30 credit points, all of them methodical, and you earn them by attending the licensed training rather than by passing an examination. No other module in the CPSA-A catalog currently awards 30 methodical points, so you collect technical and communicative ones elsewhere, because CPSA-A admission requires 70 points in total and at least 10 in each of the three areas of competence. The iSAQB may re-evaluate point allocations every 12 months; these figures are as of August 2026.
04How does the CPSA-A certification work?
CPSA-A certification consists of a written assignment. Two examiners recognised by the iSAQB assess it, and you then defend it in discussion with them. You can take it in German or English, and tecnovy is glad to help if you have questions about the process.
05How long is the EAM training?
The tecnovy EAM training runs for three days. The iSAQB curriculum sets a minimum of three days and 1080 teaching minutes for it, which is 18 hours. Part two alone, on approaches and methods, takes 540 of those minutes, half the course.
06What is the difference between EAM and IMPROVE?
EAM works on the application landscape, IMPROVE works on a single system. The IMPROVE curriculum spends 210 of its 1080 minutes analysing the current state of one system and 360 on concrete improvement measures in code, tests and infrastructure; EAM spends its 1080 minutes on target architecture, roadmap and governance for the whole portfolio. The points separate the two as well: IMPROVE awards 20 methodical and 10 technical, EAM 30 methodical.
07Is the tecnovy EAM training a TOGAF course?
No. EAM is an iSAQB module and leads to neither a TOGAF certification nor a TOGAF examination. The curriculum uses TOGAF as a toolbox: the Architecture Development Method, the principles catalog, the reference models and TOGAF-style compliance monitoring. Alongside it you place other frameworks, such as Zachman as a taxonomy and BIAN and TM Forum Frameworx as industry frameworks.
08Do I get the flipcharts from the EAM training?
Yes. Everything produced on the flipcharts during the tecnovy EAM training reaches you as a photo protocol after the course. On online dates the sticky-note exercises run on a Conceptboard that all participants edit at the same time.
