SAFe® for Teams Certification (SAFe® Practitioner)

Most people do not book this course themselves: their organisation is launching an Agile Release Train and sends every team through it together. That is exactly what SAFe for Teams is built for. You learn how your team works inside the train, how you derive your backlog from a vision, and what the first PI Planning will ask of you. You leave knowing what your team owes the train and what the other teams will measure you on.

What this module delivers.

SAFe for Teams is the course a whole Agile Release Train goes through when it launches. You work on your own role inside it: the backlog, the iterations, quality, and the handovers to the other teams.

Fit

Who this module is designed for

Typical roles

  • You work in a team that is becoming part of an Agile Release Train.
  • You are heading into your first PI Planning and do not yet know what it expects of you.
  • You have to align your work with teams you barely dealt with before.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites

You can start right away. What you need: workable English for the SAFe terminology, which stays English throughout.

Consider instead SSM 6.0 · SAFe® Scrum Master Certification (SSM) For people facilitating the team rather than working inside it as a member.

Curriculum

SAFe® for Teams Course in Detail

Scaled Agile splits the course into seven lessons. They run from the framework through forming the teams and connecting to the customer, on to planning, delivering, and finally feedback and improvement.

01Introducing SAFe

The opening settles what your team is about to be part of.

  • The foundations of the framework in overview
  • What an Agile Release Train is actually for
  • Where AI tools support the work inside the framework
02Forming Agile Teams as an Agile Release Train

Here your team takes its shape and its place in the train.

  • What makes an agile team and how it works
  • Scrum and Kanban, and when each fits
  • How several teams deliver together inside the train
03Connecting to the customer

The heaviest part: a vision turns into your team's work.

  • A customer-centric mindset as the starting point
  • Reading and using the product vision and roadmap
  • Deriving stories from features and building a team backlog
  • Crafting AI prompts that actually help with backlog work
04Planning the work

What your team is expected to do in PI Planning and after it.

  • Taking part in PI Planning and planning alongside
  • Planning the team's iterations
  • Refining the backlog continuously
05Delivering value

The part where planned work becomes delivered work.

  • The continuous delivery pipeline and your team's part in it
  • The sync events that hold the train together
  • Built-in quality instead of quality at the end
  • Responsible use of AI in delivery
06Getting feedback

Short, but the point where you find out whether the result holds.

  • Techniques for getting feedback you can use
  • The team demo and the system demo, and what separates them
07Improving relentlessly

The closing part makes improvement measurable rather than well meant.

  • Reviewing the iterations and spotting patterns
  • Accelerating flow where it demonstrably stalls
  • Using Measure and Grow to establish where you stand

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01Does my whole team have to attend the course together?
No, you can attend SAFe for Teams on your own. The course is built for a whole Agile Release Train launching together though, and the exercises work best when you do them within your own team.
02Can I look things up in the SAFe Framework during the SAFe Practitioner exam?
No. Scaled Agile runs the exam closed book and names the Big Picture specifically as material you may not use. Notes, published material and help from another person are all excluded.
03Do I need prior knowledge for SAFe for Teams?
No, Scaled Agile sets no formal admission requirements for the SAFe Practitioner certification. The course is designed as an entry point for entire teams and assumes no prior SAFe experience.
04What is the difference between SAFe for Teams and the SAFe Scrum Master?
SAFe for Teams is written for every member of a team inside an Agile Release Train. The SAFe Scrum Master goes deeper into the role that facilitates that team and clears its impediments.
05What happens if I do not pass the SAFe Practitioner exam?
The tecnovy course price covers two exam attempts, as long as you use them within 60 days of the course ending. Every further attempt costs USD 50 with Scaled Agile.
06Does my SAFe Practitioner certification expire?
Yes, it has to be renewed, and that first year is included in the tecnovy course price. To renew it afterwards Scaled Agile charges USD 195 plus 12 continuing education units every year. Your SAFe Studio membership renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the cycle ends.
07What material do I get in the SAFe for Teams training?
You get the course material in digital form and keep it permanently. Every flipchart worked out during the tecnovy training reaches you afterwards as a photo protocol.
