NVIDIACertified Associate: Generative AI LLMs (NCA-GENL)
NVIDIA certifies generative AI LLM skills at two levels, and NCA-GENL is the Associate level. It tests foundations: how transformers work, when prompting, RAG or fine-tuning fits, and how you evaluate model output. Distributed training across several GPUs, parallelism and performance profiling are tested only at the Professional level, NCP-GENL, where NVIDIA expects two to three years of practice. The tecnovy training prepares you for the Associate level.
For developers and data scientists who contribute to LLM applications in a team: in the tecnovy training for NVIDIA NCA-GENL you practise transformers, prompting, RAG, fine-tuning and evaluation, then decide with reasons which approach fits a use case.

You want to back your LLM foundations with an Associate-level certification from NVIDIA.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites
You can start right away. What you need: a basic understanding of generative AI and large language models. Helpful: basic Python skills, basic knowledge of machine learning.

Curriculum
NCA-GENL Course in Detail
The tecnovy training runs in five parts from how a language model is built to exam strategy. NVIDIA weights the NCA-GENL exam across five domains (as of November 2026): Core Machine Learning and AI Knowledge 30 %, Software Development 24 %, Experimentation 22 %, Data Analysis 14 % and Trustworthy AI 10 %. This curriculum omits Data Analysis and parts of Experimentation.
01Foundations
This part lays the foundation that every later decision about an LLM builds on.
Machine learning, neural networks and deep learning in overview
Transformer architecture with encoder, decoder and attention
Tokens and embeddings as the input of a language model
02Working with LLMs
Here you steer a language model without changing its weights.
Prompt engineering with zero-, one- and few-shot examples
Controlling the format and content of the output
Retrieval augmented generation (RAG): splitting, embedding and retrieving documents
03Adapting models
When prompting and RAG are not enough, you adapt the model itself.
Full fine-tuning and parameter-efficient methods such as LoRA
Cleaning and tokenising datasets for fine-tuning
Choosing between prompting, RAG and fine-tuning
04Deployment and evaluation
This part takes you from the adapted model to an evaluated application.
Optimising inference and deploying models
NVIDIA tools from NVIDIA's reading list for the exam, including TensorRT, NVIDIA Dynamo-Triton (formerly Triton Inference Server) and NeMo
Evaluating LLM output with metrics and benchmarks
Trustworthy AI: bias, data privacy and consent
05Exam preparation
Finally you apply what you have learned to the format of the NCA-GENL exam.
Practice questions in the exam's multiple-choice format
Pacing 50 to 60 questions in one hour
English technical terms as they appear in the exam
You explain how a transformer uses attention to generate text from tokens and embeddings.
02
You choose between prompting, RAG and fine-tuning for a use case and justify the choice.
03
You write prompts with examples that control the format and content of the model output.
04
You outline a RAG application from splitting the documents through embeddings to passing relevant content to the model.
05
You compare full fine-tuning with parameter-efficient methods such as LoRA by compute effort and data needs.
06
You prepare a dataset for fine-tuning, from cleaning to tokenisation.
07
You map NVIDIA tools to the steps of adapting, optimising inference for and deploying an LLM.
08
You evaluate LLM output with metrics and benchmarks and check it for bias and the handling of personal data.
NVIDIA-Certified Associate: Generative AI LLMs
NVIDIA awards the certification only for a passed exam, as a digital badge with an optional certificate. It is valid for two years from issuance; to recertify, you must pass the exam again.
German/English glossaryBecause NVIDIA sets the NCA-GENL exam in English, the glossary explains the technical terms of its exam topics in German.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
01NCA-GENL or NCP-GENL: which NVIDIA level fits me?
NCA-GENL fits if you want to prove LLM foundations: NVIDIA calls the Associate level an entry-level credential for developers who contribute to LLM systems under the guidance of senior colleagues. The Professional level, NCP-GENL, lists two to three years of practice as a prerequisite and tests the design, training and fine-tuning of LLMs with distributed training (as of November 2026). The tecnovy training prepares you for NCA-GENL.
02How does the NVIDIA NCA-GENL exam work?
The NCA-GENL exam has 50 to 60 multiple-choice questions in one hour, takes place separately from the tecnovy training and is accessed through a Certiverse account. According to NVIDIA, most exams show your result on screen at the end, and an e-mail follows within 24 hours (as of November 2026).
03How many points do I need to pass NCA-GENL?
NVIDIA does not publish that: its certification exams end in pass or fail, and NVIDIA does not share a score (as of November 2026). In the tecnovy NCA-GENL training you therefore check where you stand with practice questions in exam format.
04Can I take the NVIDIA NCA-GENL exam in German?
No, NVIDIA offers NCA-GENL in English (as of November 2026). If an exam is not offered in your native language, you can request additional time; NVIDIA decides case by case, and the request must be made before the exam.
05What happens if I do not pass the NVIDIA NCA-GENL exam?
You can purchase and take the NCA-GENL exam again after a 14-day wait, with at most five attempts in total, including the first, in twelve months from the purchase of the first attempt (NVIDIA, as of November 2026). The fee for each attempt is not part of the tecnovy course price.
06When do I take the NVIDIA NCA-GENL exam after the training?
You choose the NCA-GENL exam date independently of the tecnovy training, and NVIDIA lets you schedule up to 60 days in advance. Rescheduling or cancelling is possible until 24 hours before the session; after that NVIDIA does not refund the fee (as of November 2026).
07Do I need experience with NVIDIA products for NCA-GENL?
No, the only prerequisite NVIDIA lists for NCA-GENL is a basic understanding of generative AI and large language models (as of November 2026). For the tecnovy training, basic Python skills and basic machine learning knowledge also help.
08Do I program my own LLM applications in the NCA-GENL training?
Not as its focus: the tecnovy NCA-GENL training works with concept blocks, demos and practice questions in exam format. You build your own LLM applications in Python, with model APIs, JSON schemas and tests, in LLM Engineering, a vendor-neutral tecnovy course without an exam.
