AI for Finance

A 6.2 percent variance against plan on material costs, 4,870 euros on a supplier invoice: in finance, a figure only stands once you can trace it back to its source. In the AI for Finance training, that is the test every AI result has to pass. You have AI analyse key figures and variances, draft management commentary and read invoices, contracts and receipts, and you check each value against the source data.

Who this module is designed for

Typical roles

  • You prepare monthly reports and explain to management where variances between plan and actual come from.
  • In accounting you process invoices and receipts or check contracts for amounts and deadlines.
  • You lead a finance team and decide how AI results are checked and signed off.

No prerequisites

Curriculum

AI for Finance Course in Detail

Three parts apply AI to typical finance tasks: analysis, reports and documents. The fourth settles how the results are checked and signed off. All exercises use sample data from controlling and accounting.

01Analysis

Here you prepare financial data with AI and have it analysed.

  • Preparing data for analysis
  • Having key figures calculated, then recalculating them
  • Analysing variances between plan and actual and testing their causes
02Reports

The analysis becomes a report that management can read.

  • Drafting monthly reports with AI
  • Management commentary on variances
  • Presenting the results
  • Matching every figure in the text to the analysis
03Documents

This part shows how AI extracts details from financial documents and where it gets them wrong.

  • Invoices: amounts, dates and suppliers
  • Contracts: terms, deadlines and conditions
  • Reviewing receipts and comparing them with the original
04Control

Finally you settle how AI results are checked and signed off.

  • Traceability: recording source, prompt (the instruction to the AI) and check
  • Four-eyes principle: a second person reviews before sign-off
  • Data protection under the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and confidential financial data

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01Can AI get numbers wrong?
Yes. AI assistants run on language models that produce likely text, and a figure in that text can look plausible and still be wrong. That is why, in the tecnovy AI for Finance training, you recalculate totals, take samples from the source data and pass on no result unchecked.
02Does the AI write the management commentary for me?
It drafts it, but the reason behind a variance comes from your knowledge of the business, because the AI knows only the figures you give it. In the tecnovy AI for Finance training you revise AI drafts of monthly reports and match every figure they quote to the analysis.
03May I load real company figures into an AI tool?
Your company policies decide that, and so does the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) as soon as personal data is involved, which you find in expense receipts or in invoices from sole traders, for example. Anthropic advises against giving its AI agent Claude Cowork access to local files with sensitive information such as financial documents (as of November 2026). In the tecnovy AI for Finance training you practise on sample data from controlling and accounting.
04Does AI for Finance make AI use GoBD-compliant or audit-proof?
No, no training can do that: whether bookkeeping in Germany meets the GoBD, the Federal Ministry of Finance's rules for electronic bookkeeping and record retention, is a question to take to your tax adviser or auditor. For bookkeeping, Section 145(1) of the German Fiscal Code (AO) requires that each business transaction can be traced from origin to completion. In the tecnovy AI for Finance training you record the source, prompt and check behind each AI result so it stays traceable.
05Can an AI check replace the four-eyes principle?
No. Under the four-eyes principle a second person reviews a result before it is released, and that responsibility cannot be handed to another AI query. In the tecnovy AI for Finance training you decide at which points in an AI-supported process that second review happens.
06Is AI for Finance an Excel course?
No, AI for Finance covers analysis, reporting and document review in finance; you should bring basic Excel skills. If your work is mainly cleaning spreadsheets, building formulas and charts and making monthly reports repeatable, the tecnovy Excel with AI training fits better: it works with Claude Cowork and expects first Cowork experience.
07What do I receive at the end of AI for Finance?
With at least 80 percent attendance you receive the tecnovy certificate of participation for AI for Finance. No examination or certification is part of the training.
