01What changed from AI-900 to AI-901?
Microsoft retired AI-900 on 30 June 2026, and since then only AI-901 leads to the Azure AI Fundamentals certification. AI-900 mostly asked you to describe AI workloads, while AI-901 gives 55 to 60 percent of the score to implementing them in Microsoft Foundry and expects Python knowledge.
02Do I need to code for AI-901?
Yes, at a basic level: for AI-901 Microsoft expects knowledge of Python syntax and basic programming techniques, plus familiarity with Azure resources. In the tecnovy training you build small client applications for a model and an agent, and you need no prior AI experience for that.
03Can I take the AI-901 exam in German?
Yes, Microsoft offers AI-901 in 13 languages, German and English among them (as of November 2026). Changes appear in English first, and Microsoft says translated versions follow about eight weeks later. If the exam is not offered in your preferred language and you are not proficient in the exam language, you can request 30 extra minutes before scheduling; Microsoft asks for a confirmation from an instructor or employer.
04How does the AI-901 exam work?
Microsoft delivers AI-901 through Pearson VUE, online proctored or at a test centre and separately from the tecnovy training. For Fundamentals exams Microsoft gives 45 minutes of exam time and 65 minutes to set aside in total. Microsoft does not name the question types in advance, but you can try them in its exam sandbox.
05Is getting 70 percent of the AI-901 questions right enough to pass?
Not necessarily: Microsoft requires at least 700 on a scaled range of 1 to 1,000 for AI-901, and because the scaling reflects how difficult the questions are, that need not equal 70 percent of the points. Wrong answers cost nothing, so answer every question.
06What happens if I do not pass the AI-901 exam?
Microsoft allows a second AI-901 attempt no sooner than 24 hours after the first, and 14 days before each one after that. You get at most five attempts in twelve months from the first, and each attempt costs the exam fee, which the tecnovy course price does not cover.
07Does the Azure AI Fundamentals certification expire?
No, Microsoft Fundamentals certifications such as Azure AI Fundamentals do not expire and need no renewal. That also holds if you earned it through AI-900: Microsoft says retiring an exam does not invalidate certifications already earned.
08What do the exercises in the AI-901 training require?
The tecnovy AI-901 exercises require access to an Azure subscription with Microsoft Foundry. They run in the Foundry portal and with the Foundry SDK.
09I do not work with code. Is the AI-901 training right for me?
Probably not, because more than half of the AI-901 score goes to implementation in Microsoft Foundry. For using AI assistants safely at work, tecnovy's vendor-neutral AI Literacy course fits, with no exam; for a vendor certification without coding, the tecnovy AWS Certified AI Practitioner training.
