AI for Developers

From reading unfamiliar code through tests and documentation to reviewing a change: AI tools now reach into almost every step of your development work. Here you use code completion, chat assistants and coding agents on the same example project, and you connect a language model to an application through an API yourself. The decisions stay yours: which tool you use, which code it gets to see, and whether a suggestion is accepted.

What this module delivers.

For developers not ready to commit to one AI tool: in tecnovy's AI for Developers you compare tools on typical development tasks, add an LLM function to an application through an API and give your team reasoned selection criteria.

Fit

Who this module is designed for

Typical roles

  • You build software and want to use AI on purpose when you get into code, test, debug and document.
  • Your team is choosing AI tools right now, and you are asked to compare the options on their merits.
  • You are about to add a first feature that uses a language model to an application.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites

You can start right away. What you need: programming experience in a common programming language.

Consider instead GitHub Copilot Starter · GitHub Copilot Training for Beginners If your company already uses GitHub Copilot: one tool in depth, with suggestions, chat and agent mode in VS Code.

Curriculum

AI for Developers Training in Detail

Four parts, all on the same example project: first the kinds of tool compared, then their use on the tasks of your week, then an LLM function of your own, and finally checking what the tools produce.

01AI tools at a glance

You sort out which kind of tool takes on which work.

  • Code completion: suggestions while you type
  • Chat assistants: questions and answers about the code
  • Coding agents: read the project, edit files and run commands over several steps
  • Selection criteria: quality, data protection, cost and integration
02AI in everyday development

You use the tools on the tasks that come up every week.

  • Understanding unfamiliar code
  • Analysing errors
  • Writing tests and documenting code
  • Refactoring and modernisation with AI
03LLMs in applications

Here you build a function of your own that calls a large language model (LLM).

  • Integrating a first LLM function through an API, the provider's programming interface
  • Structured outputs: answers in a fixed format such as JSON that your code processes further
  • Error handling when an answer does not arrive or cannot be used
04Quality and security

Whatever a tool produces, you check it before it goes into your code.

  • Typical faults in AI-generated code
  • Spotting security vulnerabilities
  • Licence questions around generated code
  • Data protection: which code and which data may go to a tool

Outcome

What you will be able to do afterwards

  1. 01

You tell code completion, chat assistants and coding agents apart by how independently they work.

  2. 02

You assess AI tools on quality, data protection, cost and integration and justify a choice.

  3. 03

You use AI to understand unfamiliar code, analyse errors, and write tests and documentation.

  4. 04

You plan a refactoring or the modernisation of existing code with AI support.

  5. 05

You integrate a first LLM function through an API, with structured output and error handling.

  6. 06

You check AI-generated code for typical faults, security vulnerabilities and licence issues before you accept it.

  7. 07

You check which code may go to an AI tool against the provider's terms and your company's rules.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01Which AI tools does the training use?
The tecnovy AI for Developers training works with several tools for code completion, chat and agentic work, among them GitHub Copilot and Claude Code (as of November 2026). It is tied to no vendor: the focus is on which tool fits which task.
02What access do I need for the exercises?
The exercises in the tecnovy AI for Developers training need access to the AI tools used. The part on LLMs in applications also needs access to an LLM API, the programming interface of a model provider.
03Which programming languages does the training suit?
The tecnovy AI for Developers training assumes no particular language; the ways of working apply to all common programming languages. You need programming experience in one of them.
04May I put company code into AI tools?
Your company decides that, based on the terms of the provider and of the plan in use. The tecnovy AI for Developers training shows which points you check, such as whether inputs are used to train models and which settings the plan offers for that.
05Can I accept AI-generated code without checking it?
No. AI tools produce code that looks plausible and can still contain faults, security vulnerabilities or licence problems. In the tecnovy AI for Developers training you practise checking such code; whether it is accepted is your decision.
06What do I build in the part on LLMs in applications?
In the tecnovy AI for Developers training you build a first small function that calls a language model through an API, requests a structured answer and handles errors. If you want to go deeper into LLM applications, the tecnovy course Building LLM Applications covers that.
07How does this differ from AI-Assisted Software Development for Teams?
The tecnovy AI for Developers training starts from your own work: comparing tools, using them day to day, building an LLM function. The tecnovy AI-Assisted Software Development for Teams training starts from the shared development process, with team standards and the question of how to measure the effect.
08How do I go deeper into one tool afterwards?
After the tecnovy AI for Developers training you go deeper into one tool in a tecnovy tool workshop, for example on GitHub Copilot or Claude Code. Those focus on the features of one tool rather than on comparing several.
09Does the training end with an examination?
No, the tecnovy AI for Developers training ends without an examination and leads to no certification. With at least 80% attendance you receive the tecnovy certificate of participation.
