GitHub Copilot already sits in your workflow: as grey text in the editor, as a chat beside the code, as a suggested commit message and on GitHub in the pull request. This training stays in the editor, where you write the code. In VS Code you practise when a suggestion while typing is enough, when the chat should explain, and when agent mode takes on a task with several steps. You review every change before it reaches your code.
For developers who mostly accept Copilot suggestions with Tab: in tecnovy's GitHub Copilot for Beginners you choose between suggestion, chat and agent mode for each task, and review every change before it lands in the shared repository.

Curriculum
GitHub Copilot Training for Beginners in Detail
The whole day happens in VS Code: each part gives Copilot a little more independence, from grey suggestion text to an agent that proposes commands. Every part has an exercise on the practice project. Tasks that Copilot works on GitHub are only placed in context here.
01Copilot at a glance
This part places Copilot in the work you already do.
The ways of working: suggestions, chat, agent mode, tasks and reviews on GitHub
Where Copilot runs: IDE, GitHub.com, Copilot CLI and the Copilot app
Which data Copilot uses and how you steer the context
02Suggestions while you type
You use suggestions on purpose rather than by chance.
Accepting, rejecting and showing alternative suggestions
Triggering better suggestions with comments and function names
Next edit suggestions for related changes
03Copilot Chat
In the chat you have explained and generated what you would otherwise look up or type.
Explaining code, analysing errors, generating tests and documentation
Giving context on purpose: files, selection, workspace
Choosing the right model, automatic only in Copilot Free
04Ask, plan and agent mode
You decide how much Copilot should do on its own.
Ask mode for answers without changing the code
Plan mode for an implementation plan you review before the first change
Agent mode: Copilot picks files, edits them and proposes commands you confirm
Which mode fits which task
05Reviewing results and working safely
Whatever Copilot writes stays a proposal until you have checked it.
Reviewing changes and undoing what you do not want
Typical faults in AI-generated code
Privacy settings and company policies

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
01What Copilot access does the training need?
The exercises in the tecnovy GitHub Copilot for Beginners training need a GitHub account with an active Copilot plan; suggestions, chat and agent mode come with every plan. Copilot Free limits them, though: 2,000 completions a month, an allowance of AI credits and automatic model selection only, so choosing a model takes a paid plan such as Pro, Business or Enterprise. If you get Copilot through an organization, its policies decide which features are enabled (as of November 2026).
02Which IDE does the training use?
The tecnovy training demonstrates and practises everything in VS Code. According to GitHub, Copilot is also available for Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Eclipse and Xcode, with suggestions, chat and agent mode; next edit suggestions are still in preview in JetBrains, Eclipse and Xcode (as of November 2026).
03How does agent mode differ from Copilot on GitHub?
Agent mode works in your editor and you follow every step. On GitHub, by contrast, you can hand Copilot a task, such as an issue, which it works on in a cloud environment and returns as a pull request for review; Copilot Free does not include this. The tecnovy beginners training only places this in context, and the advanced course is where you practise it.
04Which AI model does Copilot use?
On Copilot Free and Copilot Student, Copilot picks the model automatically; on paid plans you choose between models from several providers in the chat. The tecnovy training shows which model suits which task, and that changing the chat model does not change the suggestions while you type.
05Is Copilot compatible with our data protection rules?
That depends on plan and configuration, and your company makes the call; the tecnovy training shows the settings that matter. GitHub states that since 24 April 2026 interaction data from Copilot Free, Pro and Pro+ is used to train its models unless the user opts out in the Privacy settings; Copilot Business and Enterprise are not affected (as of November 2026).
06Does the training end with an examination?
No, GitHub sets no examination here and awards no certification for the tecnovy GitHub Copilot for Beginners training. With at least 80% attendance you receive the tecnovy certificate of participation.
07I already use chat and agent mode every day. What fits then?
If you already use chat and agent mode daily, the tecnovy course GitHub Copilot Advanced is the better fit. It covers tasks that Copilot works on GitHub and returns as a pull request, Copilot code review, custom instructions and prompt files, MCP, and rolling Copilot out to a team.
