AI for HR

Three sets of rules frame AI in HR before any tool is opened. The EU AI Act generally classes AI for candidate selection and personnel decisions as high-risk, the GDPR covers all applicant and employee data, and in Germany the works council has co-determination rights over systems that can monitor performance or behaviour. In this training you use AI for job ads, onboarding and people development, and check each use against those rules.

Consider instead AI Literacy For anyone who wants general AI basics for daily work first: how generative AI works, prompting and checking results.

Curriculum

AI for HR Course in Detail

Four parts in one day: first you work with AI on everyday HR tasks and in people development. Then you check the same uses against the EU AI Act, the GDPR and works council co-determination. Finally you look at the role HR plays in building AI literacy across the organisation.

01AI in everyday HR work

In this part you put AI assistants to work on tasks every HR team handles.

  • Drafting and revising job ads
  • Communication with applicants and employees
  • Onboarding material for new hires
  • Knowledge management in HR
02People development with AI

Here you use AI to plan development and training.

  • Learning paths for roles and teams
  • Competency profiles
  • Drafting training content
03Limits and rules

This part shows when an AI use in HR needs more than a good idea.

  • High-risk classification under Annex III of the EU AI Act, obligations from 2 December 2027 (as of November 2026)
  • GDPR and Article 22: limits and exceptions for automated personnel decisions
  • Works council co-determination in Germany
  • Spotting bias in AI output
04AI literacy in the organisation

Finally you work out which role HR takes in building AI literacy.

  • What Article 4 of the EU AI Act requires since July 2026: measures, no guaranteed level per person
  • The role of HR in building AI literacy
  • Planning and documenting measures

Outcome

What you will be able to do afterwards

  1. 01

You draft job ads, employee communication and onboarding material with AI and review them before release.

  4. 04

You check which applicant and employee data belong in an AI tool and which do not.

  5. 05

You build in human review so that no personnel decision rests solely on automated processing.

  6. 06

You recognise when an AI system is subject to works council co-determination in Germany and involve the works council in time.

  7. 07

You check AI output in recruitment for bias, meaning systematic disadvantage by age, gender or origin, for example.

  8. 08

You plan how HR sets up and documents measures for staff AI literacy under Article 4 of the EU AI Act.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01May we use AI in recruitment?
That depends on what a system is intended for: the EU AI Act lists AI that filters applications, evaluates candidates or places targeted job ads as high-risk in Annex III; Article 6(3) sets out exceptions. In the tecnovy AI for HR training you check such cases one by one and work out which of them legal, the data protection officer and, in Germany, the works council should see before launch.
02When do the AI Act high-risk obligations apply to HR systems?
As of November 2026, the obligations for high-risk AI systems under Annex III, including AI for recruitment and personnel decisions, apply from 2 December 2027. That date was set by Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, which entered into force on 27 July 2026. In the tecnovy AI for HR training you classify planned HR systems now, so a project knows this deadline before it starts.
03Does the works council have a say over AI in HR?
In Germany, yes, as soon as an AI system is capable of monitoring the performance or behaviour of employees. Section 87(1) no. 6 of the Works Constitution Act (BetrVG) grants that right unless a statute or collective agreement already settles the matter, and the Federal Labour Court holds that objective suitability is enough, with no intent to monitor required. In the tecnovy AI for HR training you check whether a planned AI use falls under it.
04What does the GDPR mean for AI in HR?
The GDPR applies to applicant and employee data even when an AI tool processes them. Article 22 gives people the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that has legal or similarly significant effects on them, with the exceptions in Article 22(2). In the tecnovy AI for HR training you decide which data belong in which tool and where a person decides, and take open questions to your data protection officer.
05What role does HR play in AI literacy under Article 4 of the AI Act?
Article 4 requires organisations that provide or deploy AI systems to take measures supporting the AI literacy of their staff. Since Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 entered into force on 27 July 2026, they need not guarantee any specific level for each person. In the tecnovy AI for HR training you plan which measures HR sets up for this and how it documents them.
06Is there an examination or a certification?
No, the tecnovy AI for HR training ends without an examination and leads to no certification. You receive the tecnovy certificate of participation, which confirms your attendance.
07Do I need prior knowledge of AI or technology?
No, the tecnovy AI for HR training has no formal prerequisites and needs no technical knowledge; first experience with an AI assistant helps. If you want the basics first, such as how generative AI works, how good prompts are built and how to check results, start with the tecnovy AI Literacy training.
08Where do I go after AI for HR?
For recurring work with documents and spreadsheets, tecnovy offers two Claude Cowork trainings. In PDFs and Documents with Cowork you analyse whole folders of documents, and in Excel with AI you turn raw tables into finished reports.
