AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01)

Coding models, tuning hyperparameters, building pipelines: AWS deliberately leaves all of that out of the AIF-C01 exam. What it tests is whether you can place AI, machine learning and generative AI, and choose the right approach for a business problem. In the training you work through the five exam domains, match business scenarios to the right AWS service, from Amazon Bedrock to SageMaker AI, and test where AI is the wrong choice.

What this module delivers.

AWS Certified AI Practitioner fits if you use or oversee AI on AWS without building it. In the tecnovy training you match AWS services to business cases, weigh RAG against fine-tuning and assess foundation models on cost and risk.

Fit

Who this module is designed for

Typical roles

  • You assess or steer AI initiatives as a manager, project lead or product owner.
  • You talk to customers about AI in sales, pre-sales, marketing or business analysis.
  • You work in IT and want to place AI services on AWS without developing them yourself.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites

You can start right away. What you need: working knowledge of your chosen AWS exam language. Helpful: up to six months of exposure to AI/ML technologies on AWS, basic familiarity with core AWS services such as Amazon S3 or Amazon Bedrock.

Consider instead AI Literacy For anyone who wants vendor-neutral skills for using AI assistants safely at work, without an exam.

Curriculum

AIF-C01 Course in Detail

The AWS Exam Guide AIF-C01 (version 1.2, October 2026) divides the exam into five domains, and the tecnovy training follows that structure. Most of the time goes into foundation models, because that domain carries the largest share of the score at 28 %.

01Fundamentals of AI and ML (20 %)

This part fixes the terms the other four domains build on.

  • Telling AI, ML, deep learning, generative and agentic AI apart
  • Learning types, data types and inference from batch to serverless
  • Testing use cases, including when AI does not fit
  • The AI/ML pipeline, MLOps and services such as SageMaker AI, Comprehend or Lex
02Fundamentals of GenAI (24 %)

Here you establish what generative AI can do and where its limits lie.

  • Tokens, embeddings, context engineering and the foundation model lifecycle
  • Agentic AI: multi-agent patterns, Model Context Protocol (MCP), memory
  • Limits such as hallucinations, measuring business value, token-based pricing
  • Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker JumpStart, Amazon Quick, Kiro, Strands Agents and AgentCore
03Applications of foundation models (28 %)

The largest exam domain shows how to put foundation models to targeted use.

  • Model selection by cost, modality and latency, parameters such as temperature
  • RAG with Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases, vector databases, AI agents
  • Prompt techniques from zero-shot to chain-of-thought, risks such as jailbreaking
  • Fine-tuning and distillation, evaluation with ROUGE, BLEU, BERTScore or LLM-as-a-judge
04Guidelines for responsible AI (14 %)

This part shows how to recognise AI that is used responsibly.

  • Features such as fairness, inclusivity, robustness and safety
  • Amazon Bedrock Guardrails, detecting and monitoring bias
  • Legal risks of generative AI, for example around intellectual property
  • Transparent models, SageMaker Model Cards, human-centred design
05Security, compliance and governance for AI solutions (14 %)

You recognise requirements and the matching AWS tools; implementing them sits outside the exam.

  • IAM, encryption, Amazon Macie, the shared responsibility model
  • Prompt injection, data leakage and grounding against hallucinations
  • Data lineage and data governance: retention, residency, logging
  • AWS Config, Amazon Inspector, AWS Artifact, AWS CloudTrail and governance processes

Outcome

What you will be able to do afterwards

  1. 01

You explain AI, machine learning, deep learning, generative and agentic AI and tell them apart.

  2. 02

You decide where AI solves a business problem and when cost or explainability argue against it.

  3. 03

You select the right AI technique and the right AWS service for a use case.

  4. 04

You compare prompt engineering, RAG and fine-tuning on cost and limits.

  5. 05

You assess foundation models on criteria such as latency, modality, cost and business value.

  6. 06

You describe what AI agents do and how the Model Context Protocol connects them to external systems.

  7. 07

You check AI initiatives for bias, transparency and legal risks such as intellectual property claims.

  8. 08

You name the security, compliance and governance requirements for AI solutions on AWS.

AWS Certified AI Practitioner (Foundational)

AWS awards the certification only for a passed exam, valid for three years. Before it expires, you renew it with the latest exam version or with AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01Do I need to code for AWS Certified AI Practitioner?
No, AWS expressly leaves coding AI models out of the AIF-C01 exam, along with feature engineering, hyperparameter tuning and building pipelines. You do have to explain how training and fine-tuning of foundation models work. That is why the tecnovy training works through business scenarios.
02Can I take the AIF-C01 exam in German?
No, AWS retired the German version of AIF-C01 after 15 October 2026 and still offers the exam in English, among other languages (as of October 2026). If you take it in English and that is not your first language, you can request the ESL +30 accommodation once before registering, which adds 30 minutes. The tecnovy training language is a separate matter.
03How does the AIF-C01 exam work?
AWS delivers AIF-C01 through Pearson VUE, online proctored or at a test centre and separately from the tecnovy training. Of the 65 questions in 90 minutes, 50 count, and the 15 unscored ones are not marked. Unanswered questions score as incorrect, and there is no penalty for guessing.
04Do I have to pass each domain of AIF-C01 separately?
No, AWS scores AIF-C01 as a whole, and you need at least 700 overall on the scale of 100 to 1,000. Strength in one domain can make up for weakness in another.
05What happens if I do not pass the AIF-C01 exam?
You can retake AIF-C01 after a 14-calendar-day wait, and AWS sets no limit on attempts. Each attempt costs the full exam fee at AWS, which is not part of the tecnovy course price.
06Do I need AWS experience for the AIF-C01 training?
No, AWS sets no formal prerequisites for AIF-C01, and the tecnovy training refreshes the AWS basics. The AWS target profile covers core services, IAM, the shared responsibility model and pricing models. If you are entirely new to IT and the AWS Cloud, AWS recommends AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials or AWS Technical Essentials first.
07How does the AIF-C01 training differ from AI Literacy?
AI Literacy is the vendor-neutral tecnovy course for using AI assistants safely in everyday work, with no vendor exam. The AWS Certified AI Practitioner training goes deeper into ML and foundation models, works with AWS services and prepares you for the AIF-C01 exam.
08How does AWS Certified AI Practitioner differ from AWS Certified AI Business Strategist?
AWS Certified AI Practitioner tests the fundamentals of AI, ML and generative AI along with AWS AI services. AWS Certified AI Business Strategist tests business judgment on AI decisions and, according to AWS, no knowledge of AWS services. This tecnovy training prepares you for AIF-C01 only.
09AWS Certified AI Practitioner or Google Generative AI Leader?
It usually comes down to which cloud your company uses, because each exam tests its own vendor's AI offerings. AWS also gives 20 % of the AIF-C01 score to AI and ML fundamentals, while Google focuses the Generative AI Leader on generative AI and business strategy.
