DatabricksCertified Generative AI Engineer Associate
Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate is the credential for engineers who design and build LLM applications on the Databricks platform. Its exam tests whether you can break a business problem into tasks, choose fitting models and tools, and build RAG applications with Vector Search, Model Serving, MLflow and Unity Catalog. In the tecnovy training you work through the six exam domains hands-on in a Databricks workspace.
A RAG application from the Delta table to the serving endpoint: you build it in the tecnovy training for Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate and evaluate it with MLflow, as a data or ML engineer working on Databricks.

The tecnovy training follows the six sections of the Databricks exam guide for the exam version of 18 March 2026. The weighting in brackets is Databricks' own: application development carries almost a third of the score, so it gets the most practice time.
01Design applications (14 %)
This part turns a business requirement into the structure of a GenAI application.
Translating goals into the inputs and outputs of an AI pipeline
Selecting model tasks and chain components
Defining and ordering tools for multi-stage reasoning
02Data preparation (14 %)
Here you prepare the documents a RAG application will later answer from.
Extracting content from source documents and filtering out noise
A chunking strategy that fits document and model
Writing chunks to Delta tables in Unity Catalog
Indexes for semantic search
03Application development (30 %)
The largest exam domain: prompt, retrieval and model become a working application.
Augmenting prompts with context from the user input
Retrieval and LLM chains
Choosing the LLM and embedding model to fit requirements
Agents with MLflow and the Agent Framework
04Assembling and deploying applications (22 %)
This part puts the application into service through Unity Catalog and Model Serving.
A chain as a pyfunc model with pre- and post-processing
Registering it in Unity Catalog with MLflow
Creating and querying a Vector Search index
Model Serving and what resources endpoints can access
05Governance (8 %)
Here you protect data and application against misuse and data leakage.
Access rights with Unity Catalog
Masking sensitive data as a guardrail
Guardrails against malicious user input
06Evaluation and monitoring (12 %)
Finally you measure how well the application works and what it costs.
Evaluating agents with MLflow scoring and tracing
Choosing metrics for a production LLM scenario
Inference tables for usage and quality in operation

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
01How does the Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate exam work?
Databricks runs the exam online proctored through Kryterion, separately from the tecnovy training. You have 90 minutes for 45 scored questions and up to 10 unscored ones, which are not marked; the time for them is already included.
02What score do I need to pass the Databricks Generative AI Engineer Associate exam?
Databricks publishes no passing score for this exam, either on the certification page or in the exam guide (as of November 2026). That is why the tecnovy training practises with exam-format questions across all six domains.
03Can I take the Databricks Generative AI Engineer Associate exam in German?
No, Databricks offers the exam in English, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and Korean (as of November 2026). The language of the tecnovy training is a separate matter.
04What happens if I do not pass the Databricks Generative AI Engineer Associate exam?
You can retake the exam after 14 days; Databricks applies that wait between all attempts. Each attempt costs the exam fee, which is not part of the tecnovy course price.
05Do I need Databricks experience for the Generative AI Engineer Associate training?
Not formally: Databricks sets no prerequisites for the exam, but recommends about six months of hands-on work with the tasks in the exam guide. For the tecnovy training, Python experience helps, because the code on the exam is Python.
06What do the exercises in the Generative AI Engineer Associate training need technically?
The exercises in the tecnovy training run in a Databricks workspace. They need access to a workspace where Unity Catalog, Vector Search, Model Serving and MLflow are available.
07Is it Vector Search or AI Search at Databricks?
Both name the same product: Databricks renamed Vector Search to AI Search, but the exam guide for the exam version of 18 March 2026 still says Vector Search. Databricks advises checking the exam guide again two weeks before your exam date.
08How does the Databricks training differ from the RAG training?
tecnovy's Databricks training uses Vector Search, Model Serving and MLflow to prepare for the Databricks exam. The RAG training uses Python and a freely available vector database, without an exam.
