IT training across Europe - tecnovy makes you future-ready.

CompTIA Tech+ (formerly ITF+) Certification

Most IT certifications assume you already work in IT. This one does not: CompTIA states explicitly that no prior experience is necessary. Tech+ gives you the vocabulary and the frame that connects hardware, networks, applications, data and security. Afterwards you know what everyone else is talking about, and can phrase requirements an IT department can work from. It is also the only certification on this board that never expires.

What this module delivers.

After Tech+ you place devices, networks, applications and data into one shared picture. For career changers and everyone working with IT professionally, that is enough to phrase requirements an IT department can actually act on.

Fit

Who this module is designed for

Typical roles

  • You are considering a move into IT and want to know what you would be taking on.
  • You work with IT systems professionally without having a technical background yourself.
  • You phrase requirements for IT and want to be understood.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites

You can start right away. What you need: English, because the examination is only offered in English and Japanese. Helpful: everyday routine with a computer and a smartphone.

Consider instead CompTIA A+ · CompTIA - A+ (Plus) Core 1 & 2 Certification Fits better if you already work in IT support and look after devices yourself.

Curriculum

CompTIA Tech+ Curriculum in Detail

The course follows the six CompTIA Tech+ exam domains and starts with the terminology, because without it the rest cannot be placed. It then moves through infrastructure to applications, software, data, and finally security.

01Tech concepts and terminology

The opening builds the language without which everything after it stays opaque.

  • How computers represent and process information
  • Placing units for storage, transfer and performance correctly
  • Input and output as a way of thinking about any IT system
  • Basic terms that come up constantly in job adverts and conversations
02Infrastructure

The largest exam domain, and the most concrete of them.

  • The components of a computer and what each is responsible for
  • Connecting and setting up devices, and recognising typical problems
  • Networking in the small: routers, wireless and the path to the internet
  • Storage locally and in the cloud, with the limits of each
03Applications and software

What runs on the infrastructure, and how it is managed.

  • Operating systems and the jobs they take on
  • Installing, updating and removing software
  • Types of application and what each is meant for
  • File management, formats and handling permissions
04Software development concepts

Not a programming course, but enough to understand development.

  • How an idea becomes running software
  • Variables, conditions and loops as the building blocks of any logic
  • Why programming languages differ, and when that matters
  • What developers need before a requirement can actually be built
05Data and database fundamentals

The part that becomes useful at work fastest.

  • Why data gets structured, and what happens when it does not
  • Databases against spreadsheets: when the effort pays off
  • Backup, restore and the value of doing it regularly
06Security

The close covers the risks that affect every workplace.

  • Confidentiality, integrity and availability through everyday examples
  • Passwords, multifactor authentication and secure device settings
  • Phishing and other attacks that target people
  • How to react once something has happened

You describe how devices, networks and storage work together.

  3. 03

You distinguish types of application and place what each is meant for.

  4. 04

You read simple program logic and recognise how software is produced.

  5. 05

You explain how data is structured, stored and retrieved again.

  6. 06

CompTIA Tech+

CompTIA awards the certification once you pass the examination. It evidences that you can name and place the building blocks of IT and how they fit together. This certification does not expire and never has to be renewed.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01Is Tech+ the same as CompTIA ITF+?
Tech+ is the successor to IT Fundamentals (ITF+). CompTIA retired ITF+ with exam number FC0-U61 during 2025 and has run Tech+ with FC0-U71 since. The tecnovy training follows the current version.
02Do I need prior knowledge for CompTIA Tech+?
No. CompTIA states explicitly for Tech+ that no prior experience is necessary, and as with all its examinations it sets no formal prerequisites. Everyday routine with a computer and a smartphone is enough to start from.
03Does the CompTIA Tech+ certification expire?
No. Tech+ is the only CompTIA certification at tecnovy without an expiry date; CompTIA explicitly calls it valid for life. A+, Network+, Security+ and CySA+ do expire after three years.
04What language is the examination in?
CompTIA offers Tech+ in English and Japanese, not in German. The tecnovy training runs in German, and you learn the terminology in both languages.
05What comes after Tech+?
CompTIA A+ is the usual next step and addresses everyone who wants to work in IT support. A+ requires two examinations and recommends around twelve months of practice, as a recommendation rather than a condition.
06What happens if I do not pass the examination?
CompTIA requires no waiting period between the first and second attempt; from the third onwards there are 14 days between each. Every further attempt costs the examination fee again.
07What materials do I receive?
You receive the training materials for all six exam domains, plus a photo record of the flipcharts produced during the course.
